Cover Reveal! Lesser Evils by Christi Goddard

Today is the first of two cover reveals this week! I'm excited to reveal the cover for the next work of a really great author--Christi Goddard. She has also written Four in the Morning and she will soon be releasing Lesser Evils. There is a sign up form to be notified of it's publication at the end of this post.

So, here is the cover!

. . . And here is the blurb:

When young Jakorus is hurled twenty years into his future, he's confronted with a horrifying truth—the world has changed for the worse, and it's his fault.

Now in the twenty-first century, the hidden island of Cybraxas teeters at the brink of civil war. Paranormals of all races have secretly coexisted with humans for centuries, but the illusion of peace crumbles when a rebellious faction fights to overturn their primary law: humans are not food. They assert the human herd needs thinning if the planet is to endure.

In his youth, an angry and embittered Jakorus believed in the rebellion's rhetoric and joined its ranks. Repentant of his sins when he is older, a young Jakorus sent from the past seemed the perfect solution to fix his mistakes. But each Jakorus trapped in this time loop only makes things more perilous. In order to restore the original timeline, the newest Jakorus learns he must murder innocents, betray friends, and repeat the same immoral choices the original Jakorus made. If he fails, the rebellion will blossom into civil war.

But through it all, Jakorus has his own problem—both he and his future self are in love with the same girl.

12 Authors of Christmas: Beck Sherman!

12 Authors of Christmas! Second to last day of this event! Day 11!

Revamp

FOR THREE DAYS, IT WAS DARK.
News reporters scrambled. This was the biggest story to come along in weeks.
They called it a blackout.
The last one was in New York City in 2003, but this one was different, special, because the grids in six major cities across the country had been fried, kaput, see-you-next-Sunday. Everyone with some jurisdiction blamed each other, and when there was no one left to blame, terrorism rode in on its gallant steed.
It was the media’s fault. They were so busy stuffing fanatical Muslims with a penchant for Allah and decapitations down the American citizen’s throat, that they never saw it coming. I guess I shouldn’t be too hard on them.
They were partially right.
It was terror after all, but a whole new kind. And when the lights came back on, things had changed.
The dark had brought us visitors.

The Vampire Myth has Evolved! Guest Post by S. M. Boyce!

Move Over, Edward—the Vampire Myth Has Evolved

Note: Boyce’s novel, Lichgates (Grimoire Trilogy #1), is free from December 21 – 23. Go grab yours now!

To say that the vampire myth has seen a resurgence in popular culture lately is a painful understatement. It’s gotten to the point where literary agents cringe when they read a query about another “teen vampire paranormal romance.”

Still, that doesn’t make vampires any less awesome. The fangs, the immortality, the dark humans-are-food thing…vampires rock.

But when I wrote the paranormal fantasy Lichgates (Grimoire Trilogy #1), I knew I wanted something different. Vampires had exploded in popularity, but I wanted to do something fresh. Exciting. New.

So I created isen.

Isen are soul stealers. For every soul they steal, they extend their youth and lives by ten years. An isen essentially becomes what they steal—they can take on their victim’s appearance at will, use the victim’s knowledge or skills, and even talk like them. Isen can be anywhere, and they can be anyone.

Of course, there’s a cost. Every stolen soul lives somewhere deep within their mind, trapped and rattling around. The more souls an isen steals, the closer to insanity they get.

If you’re an isen, you have a barb hidden in your right palm. It’s a long, purple thing that extends when you want to steal a soul—and all you have to do is stab your victim’s spine with the barb. Sometimes, your very faint scent that smells something like lavender and pine gives you away. But most of the time, you get your victims.

Being an isen is in your blood—you have to be born an isen. But many born isen don’t know what they are until their teens, when they’re awoken…and awakening is a painful experience. An already-awoken isen has to find you, prick your spine with their soul-stealing barb, and then kill you.

You meet Death: the blood-red guardian of the afterlife. And If you can prove that you have a life left to live, he’ll send you back—as a fully awakened and very powerful isen.

It’s a rough life filled with tragedy, but to some, the unlimited power is worth it.

How about you? Would you want to be an isen? Why or why not? Remember to grab your free copy of Lichgates between December 21 – 23!

12 Authors of Christmas: Thomas Winship!

Here we are at day 7 of 12 Authors of Christmas!

Thomas Winship

Vaempires: Revolution

It is the morning of Princess Cassandra's sixteenth birthday. Everyone's attention is focused on the heir to the vampire throne. World leaders, the rich and famous, and VIPs from every corner of the globe have gathered in the nation's capital to celebrate the momentous event.

Cassandra's boyfriend, Daniel, is late for the party. He's still outside the city when all hell breaks loose. What he believes is an act of terrorism proves to be a full-fledged revolution. Væmpires--former vampires who mutated into warm-blooded creatures with an insatiable hunger for cold blood--have launched coordinated attacks across the globe, with three goals: the eradication of humanity, the enslavement of vampires, and the ascension of væmpires as the dominant species on the planet.

The vampire and human leaders are killed. Cassandra is missing. Daniel is the acting king. Desperate to find the princess, Daniel and his friends fight their way across the besieged city. With the hopes of the free world resting on the shoulders of four vampire teenagers, væmpires unleash their secret weapons: a new breed of væmpire that is far deadlier than any ever seen before.

What can four teens do against an enemy that can shape-shift, fly, and walk through walls?

Vaempires: White Christmas

It's almost Christmas. With the global holiday days away, the people of the world should be turning their attention toward celebrating peace and goodwill, but tension between humans, vampires, and væmpires is at an all-time high. Desperate for solutions, King Brant schedules a secret summit deep in North America's Northern Forest. Along with Queen Anne, Princess Cassandra, Daniel's family, and the human president and First Lady, the vampire leader seeks to reaffirm the ties between humans and vampires, while brainstorming ways to respond to the growing hostility among væmpires.

Meanwhile, Daniel and Cassie's relationship is at an all-time low. The princess is still reeling from her breakup with Vielyn, and Daniel doesn't know what he should or shouldn't do to help. Little does he know that the summit will be flooded with surprises--guests, allegations, accusations, proposals, and even Christmas Eve revelations--but not all of the surprises will be pleasant.

Vampire forces are reeling. As Linq and Ray race to the royal estate to rendezvous with Cassandra and Daniel, the princess is captured and Daniel falls.

With the fate of world shifting to their teenage shoulders, Linq and Ray must deal with tremendous losses while battling a most unexpected—and undeadly—new foe.

How my husband and I are like Mr. and Mrs. Smith

It's no secret that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are two of my favorite actors. So back in 2004-2005 when it was announced that they were doing a movie together, and that it was an action movie about assassins--I was ecstatic! Little did I know, I would be entering into a marriage in 2009 that would see some similarities to the movie.

Now, my husband and I did not see the six year slump that they did, nor do we see a therapist. No, the similarities between our marriage and Mr. and Mrs. Smith's marriage begins when Mr and Mrs. Smith find out the other is an assassin.

Now I realize that this blog is for the paranormal, but considering the skills shown on the movie, it borders on paranormal.

Okay so here are some examples of the similarities.

The Smiths are always threatening to kill each other, but in a loving and joking way. My husband and I do the same. He doesn't take out the garbage? "Take out the garbage before I kill you!" I say. I forget to wash his favorite Cabela's hoodie? "I'm going to kill you one of these days," he says. Now worries though. We'd be like the Smiths--unable to pull the trigger.

The Smiths like their weapons. I'm more into knives and my husband is more into guns, but we both go shooting and we both have our knife collection. I throw knives just like Mrs. Smith and it's lots of fun!

Mr. Smith is spontaneous and unorganized and Mrs. Smith is a planner and an organizer. The same goes for my husband and I. Our morning conversation usually goes like this:

Me: What do you want to do today?
Nick: I don't know. Whatever we feel like doing.
Me: Well, should I get ready to go up town?
Nick: I don't know, what do you think?
Me: I don't have anything I need to do. I'm asking if you have anything you want to do today.
Nick: Maybe.

It's like pulling teeth! It drives me crazy and sometimes makes me want to kill him.

Mrs. Smith can't cook. I can kinda cook. Mostly stuff from a box or a packet, but I HATE doing it.

Mr. Smith likes 80's music (Nothin' but A Good Time, by Poison) so does my husband.

We always have each other's back and although one of us might throw a knife into the other's leg, we still love each other very much. (Don't worry, that was from the movie. I didn't throw a knife into my husband's leg. Not yet.)

There are other similarities, but I'll leave you to speculate on those. The point is: I love my husband, but sometimes . . . *makes choking motion with hands*

Lichgates

The Grimoire turns its own pages and can answer any question asked of it, and Kara Magari is its next target.

Kara has no idea what she's getting herself into when she stumbles across the old book while hiking a hidden trail. Once she opens it, she's thrown into Ourea: a beautiful world full of terrifying things that want the Grimoire's secrets. Everyone in this new world is trying to find her, and most want to control the new-found power the book bestows upon her. Even if Kara does escape, Ourea will only drag her back.

Braeden Drakonin grew up in Ourea, and all he’s ever known of life is lying. The Grimoire is his one chance at redemption, and it lands in his lap when Kara Magari comes into his life. He has one question to ask the book—one question that can fix everything in his broken world—and he’s not letting Kara out of his sight until he gets an answer.

There’s no going back now.

Treason

Ourea has always been a deadly place. The lichgates tying the hidden world to Earth keep its creatures at bay—for now.

Kara Magari ignited a war when she stumbled into Ourea and found the Grimoire: a powerful artifact filled with secrets. To protect the one person she has left, she strikes a deal that goes against everything she believes in. But things don’t go as planned.

Braeden Drakonin can no longer run from who—and what—he is. He has to face the facts. He’s a prince. He’s a murderer. He’s a wanted man. And after a betrayal that leaves him heartbroken, he’s out for blood.

To survive, both Kara and Braeden must become the evil each has grown to hate.

It's a Paranormal Lounge Christmas! #3

Hey everyone! Here is my third installment of the Paranormal Lounge Christmas series. Today I want to talk to you about DECORATIONS! Yes. I am a decorating FREAK! I love to decorate, but unfortunately, my husband won't let me put a paranormal twist on our Christmas decorations, so I'm going to relay my ideas to you! Take 'em or leave 'em!

Idea #1: Dip your glass or plastic balls that hang on the tree into some bright red wax to give them a bloody look. Just hang them up somewhere for a few minutes to let them dry. I'd try to use a harder wax than candle wax. I'm sure you can find that at a craft store. Just make sure the lights on your tree are LED so they don't get hot!

Idea #2: Integrate some of your Halloween decorations into your Christmas decor. You can put little tombstones under your tree and make a grave yard. You can even make our own Christmas themed ones with some make-and-bake clay. Some that say, "Here lies Ebenezer Scrooge" or something along those lines.

Idea #3: Decorate your tree with only white lights and glittery spikes and swirls. It will look like magic! Hey, my husband might actually let me do that one! It may not be overtly paranormal, but you will know what it is and that's all that matters!

Do you guys have any ideas for decorating with a paranormal twist?

It's a Paranormal Lounge Christmas! #2

In the second Paranomal Lounge Christmas Post, I'd like to tell you all that even though it says "Christmas" in the title, you can still do these things for other holidays that you may be celebrating this time of year. This time of year is about being kind to those around you. It's not about who's holiday is best or whether we should say Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas or whatever.

It's about telling the people you care about that you love them. So today's thing you can do to spread the holiday spirit with a paranormal twist is to send out a Happy Holidays email to all your friends who love paranormal books and movies as much as you do. you can also post to twitter and facebook.

I've created a special graphic just for the occasion! So if you'd like, save this picture and send it as an email or a post on facebook or create your own! People love gifts you make yourself!

A new short story published by Kayla Curry!

Hey everyone! I've published yet another short story, this time it is more on the paranormal side of things. Oomph! is pretty paranormal too, but it was a horror. Journey in an Unknown Land was just kinda strange. (You know what I'm talking about if you've read it)

This new story is called Falling Leaves and it's got a little love, a little mystery and a little adventure, with a good handful of magic. I'm thinking about making it into a series, but I'd like to see how it goes first.

So, here's the blurb:

A woman finds a special leaf that leads her to a magical and mysterious place. Will she believe what she sees when she finally gets there? Will she decide to stay?

And here is the cover (designed by me):

It's a Paranormal Lounge Christmas! #1

I was born around 6am on Christmas day back in 1987. My mother brought me home in a stocking. Yeah. She still has it too and she tells me every year, "You were my Christmas present that year."

So, sometihng about being born on Christmas just makes me have a special connection to that day. You'd think I would hate Christmas since my birthday gets pushed aside for the biggest holiday of the year, but no. I love Christmas.

Even though it's become quite the commercial holiday, I still think there is hope for Christmas. This month I will be periodically posting things you can do to enhance your Christmas non-commercially while adding a paranormal twist!

So the first thing you can do that is totaly free and therefore non-commercial, is pick up A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. This story takes Christmas and throws in a little paranormal with the three ghosts. It's a classic and it was written in only 6 weeks.

Bio:

Noree Cosper loves writing about magic in the modern world. While growing up in Texas she constantly searched for mystical elements in the mundane. She buried her nose in both fiction and books about Wicca, Religion, and Mythology. Everyday became an adventure as she joined a group of role-players, acting out her fantasies of vampires, demons, and monsters living in the world.

She embraced her nerdom wholeheartedly.

Noree grew, but never left her love for fantasy and horror. Her dreams pushed her and her hand itched to write the visions she saw. So, with her fingers on the keys, she did what her heart had been telling her to do since childhood. She wrote.

Noree can be found stalking people on Twitter and Facebook.

Be sure to check out her website for news on her works and tidbits of information

She also likes to ramble about things magical and supernatural on her blog Trip the Eclipse.
